The Carnival originally came from the word carne vale which meant “goodbye to meat” which was in reference to the upcoming fasting season. Machu Picchu in Peru may be what South America is most famous for as a travel destination. It’s an ancient Incan citadel and archeological site that’s on top of a mountain. We still aren’t sure what it was used for. Today, it’s famous for its incredible views and unique architecture. You can choose to take a train or to hike to Machu Picchu. Because of its high altitude you will likely need to acclimatize before heading there in order to reduce your risk of feeling sick.
